Through its MTQS (Material Testing Quality Services) division, MTTC provides guidance with the development of quality systems in accordance with SABS ISO/IEC 17025, General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
The following aspects are covered:

• Quality assessments of laboratories.
• Quality system development and management.
• Quality system awareness building and development.
• Coordination of the Civil Engineering Materials Proficiency Testing Scheme (CEMPROF).

Quality assessments are followed up with reports detailing the laboratory’s position in relation with international standards.

Since November 2002 MTQS assisted in quality systems development at more than fifteen commercial and site laboratories in South Africa, Namibia and Swaziland.

MTQS has developed its own laboratory assessment forms which can favourably compare to the international standards and include:

• Vertical Audit Guidelines.
• Evaluation and Witnessing Activity.
• Apparatus Inspection.
